Scillies and Tresco Abbey Gardens Cruise

Tresco Abbey GardensThe Scillies have an awesome reputation - and yet in late spring/early summer they can be quite magical. A brilliant clear light illuminates the islands; the sea is a wonderful clear blue and the distant islands shimmer in the warmth of the sun. Far cry from the winter storms that lash Hell's Bay on the North West side of Bryher.

Select Sailing's annual cruise to the Scillies is deliberately set in June, when the weather is usually at its best, and the days at their longest.

We start from Falmouth, and often "shake down" with a short hop to Helford on the first day. The following day we make the passage to the Scillies - usually arriving early evening, and more often than not end up on a mooring off Hugh Town, St Mary's. The next day is usually set aside for "R&R" - a chance for a run ashore on St Mary's, and to stock Leopard up for the next few days.

Tresco Abbey Gardens Over the next few days we cruise in easy time round the Scillies - normally calling at St Agnes, Bryher, St Martins and of course Tresco, with its botanical highlight of the cruise - The Abbey Gardens.

These world famous gardens are absolutely fabulous - the warmth from the Gulf Stream producing a sub-tropical climate. Being late spring/early summer, the flowers are often at their best - the pictures on this page were taken during the June 2006 cruise to the Scillies.

Towards the end of the week we usually end up back off St Mary's and usually manage a meal ashore (usually not the first one either!) before sailing back the following day to Falmouth.

Cruise dates for 2008: TBC; cost per person £750pp inclusive of all on board costs. Click here to email an enquiry.
